What it is Like to Be a Brother

Freshman year second semester, I was still struggling to find an organization in which to get involved. One day, I received an email inviting me to a recruitment event for Phi Sigma Pi, a national co-ed honors fraternity. I went through the recruitment process and became a brother of Phi Sigma Pi. A lot of people received an invitation to join but do not know enough information about the fraternity to follow through. I am hoping I can give a nice glimpse into the life of a brother.

  • Who we are

Phi Sigma Pi is a co-ed national honors fraternity. You must have a 3.0 GPA to be invited and then receive a bid. After receiving your bid, you go through the initiation period. During this time, you get to know the history of the organization and meet the brothers in your chapter. Phi Sigma Pi is based on a tripod of ideals: Scholarship, Leadership and Fellowship. We host events which follow these ideals.

  • What we do

I mentioned before that we plan events following our tripod of ideals, but we do even more. Coming into Phi Sigma Pi is like getting 50 new brothers all at once. We hang out together, study together and volunteer together. We have study group events. We have social outings, like bowling or laser tag. Recently we had a bake sale for a member in another chapter who lost someone close to him. This bake sale really solidified for me how much my brothers care about each other.

  • Why

If you are looking for a family on UK’s campus, then Phi Sigma Pi is definitely where you will find one. We are a bit awkward, but that is what makes us such a unique group. We know we can count on each other. This is the group I was looking to join my freshman year, and I am glad I found it. My time so far has been filled with nothing but good times.
