I do not know about you all reading this article, but I freaking love Thanksgiving. Honestly, what is not to love about it? You get to sit around and eat food all day and be thankful for your family and friends who are more than likely sitting at the table with you.

There is just something about Thanksgiving that warms my heart (and stomach). My favorite Thanksgiving dish has got to be mashed potatoes and gravy. GIVE ME ALL THE CARBS.

I have conducted a little bit of research to see what the top 5 most popular Thanksgiving Dishes in America are. Here is what I came up with:

1. Turkey:

Although on any regular day I actually prefer ham or chicken over turkey, on Thanksgiving go ahead and slap some more turkey on my plate. According to statisticbrain.com, there will be 51,650,000 turkeys consumed on Thanksgiving Day. If we are being honest here, I did not even know that there were that many turkeys on this planet.

2. Stuffing/Dressing:

Regardless if you call this delicious dish stuffing or dressing, I think we can all agree that it is not actually Thanksgiving if you do not have any of it. Personally, I love to smother my dressing in brown gravy. SO GOOD! Like I said, give me ALL the carbs on Thanksgiving Day.

3. Mashed Potatoes:

I am not even going to comment on this one… because… mashed potatoes literally make my heart skip a beat. If you do not like mashed potatoes, I probably do not like you. Enough said.

4. Gravy:

You cannot enjoy your mashed potatoes without gravy! It is just un-American. Whether you prefer white or brown gravy on your mashed potatoes, it does not matter, just go ahead and drown your mountain of mashed potatoes in it (brown gravy is better though…).

5. Pie:

Nothing rounds up an incredible Thanksgiving meal like a good ol’ slice of pie. Pumpkin, pecan, Derby, blueberry, whatever! If you are going to go on full-out “Thanksgiving Mode,” you are not allowed to pass up eating a piece of pie. My personal favorite is pumpkin pie with a huge scoop of whipped cream on top. YUM!

Thanksgiving Day is the one day out of the year that you are allowed to gorge yourself with food and you do not have to worry about how much weight you gain, or how big the food baby is in your tummy after your meal.

For college students everywhere this is the moment we have been waiting for all semester. We finally get that home-cooked meal we all have been yearning for the past 16 weeks.

Sit back, relax and enjoy time with loved ones this Thanksgiving Day.

Happy eating!
