A Summer of Music

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

Music is something that is constantly changing and evolving into new styles and sounds. I remember being a little girl and growing up listening to the music that my parents would play in the car, it would range from my mom listening to the radio hits of the early 2000s to my dad throwing it back to the 80s playing some tunes that sound like they were out of an 80s indie movie.

From a young age I have always connected with music and it is something that I have found a burning passion for. I have always had an open ear to listen to new music and I am constantly designing playlists from a variety of different genres. This is why I have found a huge interest in music festivals.

As summer approaches, so does the season of music festivals throughout the United States. Starting out with Coachella in early April, this music festival lasts throughout two weekends in Indio, California. People from all over the world come to the fest to see big headliners such as Beyoncé, The Weeknd and Post Malone.

Another hot music festival to look into this summer is the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Unlike Coachella, this fest is unique because it is a four-day camping festival in Manchester, Tennessee. I went to Bonnaroo last year and it was the most amazing experience of my life. The positive energy and vibes people give off all weekend is truly magical and unlike anything I have ever felt before.

Lollapalooza is another popular music festival located in Grant Park, Chicago. Lolla is cool because people from all over the world come to celebrate the weekend in the heart of the city. Lollapalooza is already sold out for the 2018 line up, however many people buy and resell tickets to the public.

Music festivals are proof that music truly does bring people together in such a beautiful way. Whether it is through the sounds, art, dancing, fashion, or anything else, music festivals are an incredible experience. If you have the time this summer, try to find a festival near you and make a day trip out of it. You will surely not be disappointed.
