Pushing Past the Post-Break Slump

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

Whether you spent a week turning up at the beach, went on some crazy adventure in a really cool city or just visited home and relaxed, spring break was most likely a much needed week off from all normal responsibilities.

However, most good things in life must come to an end, and we are all forced to come down and face reality for the next half of the semester. For many, getting back into the swing of things is extremely hard. With the end of a week of unwinding coupled with the fast-approaching summer vacation, finding the motivation to get back to grinding is beyond tough.

Getting out of a slump starts with the inspiration to do so. Find something new that boosts your productivity, whether it be new music, a new study spot on campus or something as trivial as a new notebook to do work in. Mixing up old surroundings could be the key to hurdling the obstacles in finding your motivation to finish the semester strong.

The most important thing to keep in mind is why you are where you are in the first place. You came to college for a reason. Reminding yourself what the end goal is can push you to see past the lackluster vision you have of college right now. Write down your end goal, make a dream board or just refresh your mind about where you want to be at graduation and how you want to get there.

Tell yourself the good news that midterms are over! If your grades are where you want them to be, keep doing what’s been working for you. If they are lacking the status you desire, develop a plan to bring it up to speed. No matter how you feel about your grades, knowing that midterms are over is a huge breath of fresh air for all of us.

Finals will be here before long, and then it is sweet, sweet summer until the end of August. Push through it, girls. You got this.
