My Food Bucket-list and Why You Should Have One Too

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

As a college student I feel that my wanderlust has significantly increased. I see all my peers studying abroad and traveling the world and I definitely want to join them. I have a travel bucket-list, that is extremely long, but I also have a food bucket-list that is a little more manageable. Currently I only have five places on my list, but that number increases all the time:

1. Sugar Factory- Orlando, Florida

The Sugar Factory can be found in seven different states and Dubai and the Philippines. Famous for their fishbowl drinks filled with candy and other sweet, you have probably seen them all over your Instagram. Not only do they provide a wide range of outrageous desserts, they also have a lovely menu. If you are looking for a unique place to celebrate your birthday the Sugar Factory takes reservations for parties and other events.

2. XO Marshmallow- Chicago, Illinois

XO Marshmallow specializes in fun and unique marshmallow combinations. The cafe offers hot chocolate, specialty coffee, and a variety of s’mores. If the s’mores they offer are not for you, you can create your own. The cafe is decorate in pink and pastels, the perfect place to enjoy a sweet treat. If you can not make it to Chicago to try the sweets out in person, you can order from them online!

3. Black Tap- New York, New York

Black Tap has become very popular over the past year and I am still not over the hype. With insane milkshakes and burgers, Black Tap is heaven for those of us who like a perfect sweet and savory combination. The food is a little more expensive, but it is not unreasonable. Black Tap also has you order your meal a la carte, so remember that when you set out.

4. Cafe Du Monde- New Orleans, Louisiana

I have seen and heard about Cafe Du Monde from friends and TV. People rave about their beignets and coffee. The best thing about the cafe is that they are open 24 hours a day seven days a week, except on Christmas day. The prices are reasonable and you can even order their coffee and merchandise online. If you can not make it New Orleans anytime soon, the website has a tutorial that will teach you how to make your beignets at home.

5. Dylan’s Candy Bar Cafe- New York, New York

You have probably noticed I have a bit of a sweet tooth. If you do to you will love Dylan’s candy bar. With a retro design and huge pieces of candy decorating the cafe, you will be in a good mood the entire time you are there. They offer food, cocktails and of course desserts. You can also buy candy and apparel online.

The places on my food bucket-list are not extravagant or even places people would consider dream destinations. To me traveling is not about going to the most popular places, but to the ones that interest you. I encourage everyone to create a travel bucket-list, whether they are based on food or hobbies. Traveling is important, it opens our eyes and our minds simultaneously. If you are experiencing wanderlust, go for it. Adventure is waiting.
