Her Campus: What is your position with Her Campus?
Sydney: I am a contributing writer and the new Social Media Director.
Her Campus: How did you get involved with the club and why?
Sydney: Earlier this semester, I decided to get involved more on campus, so I went to OrgSync and scrolled through the clubs and organizations to find something that interested me. As soon as I read about Her Campus, I knew I wanted to be a part of it!
Her Campus: What is your favorite part about being a writer?
Sydney: I communicate best through writing. I like how writing can take on so many forms, from poetry to narrative to journalism. There isn’t a specific type of writing that is my favorite, and I love how Her Campus allows its contributors to write about whatever they want. Writing is a creative outlet for me, and I love that Her Campus welcomes its contributors’ desire to be creative.
Her Campus: Any challenges being a writer?
Sydney: Definitely. Sometimes I have a hard time finding a topic to write about that is both interesting and that I feel is worth sharing. I definitely get writer’s block from time to time.
Her Campus: Are you involved in other clubs on campus?
Sydney: This was actually the only organization I heard back from out of the several I reached out to on OrgSync. So for right now, I am not. However, off campus, I am volunteering for a local politician’s campaign.
Her Campus: What is your dream job?
Sydney: I would absolutely love to be a travel writer. Traveling is one of my greatest passions, and I would love to get to travel for a living. It would be amazing to have a job that combines my love of both traveling and writing.
Her Campus: Hobbies?
Sydney: I’m sure it’s shocking, but I love to write! I write a lot in my free time. I’m also a Netflix/Hulu junkie. I like to pretend I know how to play the piano and the ukulele and you can often find me attempting to teach myself songs.
Her Campus: Advice to new students?
Sydney: College isn’t as intimidating as you might think. There is so much to do and get involved with, so you are sure to find your niche somewhere. Don’t forget to take care of yourself. It’s easy to be consumed by everything going on, but always make sure your well-being is your top priority.
Her Campus: Favorite memory so far at UK?
Sydney: At midnight on my birthday, all of my friends came to my dorm and told me they ordered me insomnia cookies. However, after waiting almost an hour and a half for them to be delivered, we realized they ordered the cookies to come at midnight the next night! So half of my friends stayed with me while the other half piled in my roommate’s car and drove to Insomnia to see if they could get the cookies tonight instead. Insomnia ended up giving them 19 cookies for free because they couldn’t figure out how to switch the order date. So by 2 AM, I was surrounded by several of my closest friends and free, warm cookies. It was the best birthday!
