Last Minute Spring Break Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

Midterms are a pain that slowly drain happiness. In this current bleak existence the greatest joy is the thought of nine (five weekdays and two weekends) days of bliss that await in the future. Spring break should not be an average weekend that is looked forward to and then sadly wasted on nothing.

This close to spring break one would think that the plans are set stone of where, when and how the break is going to be spent. However, I am positive that a significant amount of people do not have a plan, me included. So, here’s a rough list of what to do with less than a week of planning.

Road Trip: You can never really go wrong with a road trip. The issue with road trips is where to go and what to do there. After research from multiple sources, I have compiled a list of fun possible destinations.

  • Canada

  • New Orleans, LA

  • Portland, OR

  • Santa Fe, NM

  • Boulder, CO

  • National Parks

    • Great Smoky Mountains

    • Yellowstone

    • Carlsbad Caverns

    • Mount Rushmore

The beauty of road trips is not just the destination. Either going with friends or a solo trip plan to stop at several locations on the way. Not just to rest and eat but to explore. That way there is at least three experiences tied into one. Also, Airbnb is the way to go.

Exploring: Whether you decide to stay around campus or go back home exploring is an option. Exploring the town/city you live in because I am certain that even though you have spent your whole life in the same place there is definitely somewhere you have not been to. If not in your hometown then the one next over. You might find your new favorite hangout.

Self Rejuvenation: Over the semester it’s very easy to get overwhelmed and forget to take care of yourself. Use this time to find your way back to you. Picking up a new hobby, reading a book, taking a walk, massage or cooking. Do things that do not stress you at all but keep your thoughts calm.

Whatever you do this spring break remember this is the halfway point and the semester is slowly ending, then comes summer. Make the most of this well deserved break so the incoming stress does not pile up on your current stress.

Advice of the day: Have fun!
