Ipsy Bag Products I Would Purchase

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

I have had an Ipsy subscription for a year now and I can honestly say that it is one of the best purchases I have made. I love makeup, but I cannot seem to splurge on a product that I have not tried before. For $10 a month you get five products ranging from drugstore to high-end. With the subscription I can try out products that I would never consider buying and that is how I came to find some of my favorite products.

Out of the 60 products I have received through the subscription, here are the products that I will most definitely purchase:

Eyes

  • It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara (Sephora, $24)

It is not everyday that I can find a mascara that will make my wimpy eyelashes full and long, that is why when I got the Superhero mascara in my Ispy bag I just had to purchase it. I have tried many other mascaras ranging from Maybelline to Chanel and none of them worked as well for me. It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara is one of my holy grail makeup items at the moment and I would definitely repurchase it!

Lips

  • The Organic Pharmacy Lip and Eye Cream (theorganicpharmacy.com, $48)

In the winter my lips become very dry and cracked. Nothing I used would help them, not even the medicated products like Blistex or Carmex. My lips had gotten used to those products and soon they would not do anything to help, they would only make the problem worse. When I received this product in my bag I figured I would give it a shot. With a brand name like “The Organic Pharmacy” I know that this product had to do something more than what normal lip balm would.

Of course it took a few days of hopelessness and application twice a day to do something, but when it finally started working it became a lifesaver. Now, every time my lips become dry and rip at the sides I find myself reaching for this product because nothing else works as well as it does for me. When I run out, I will most definitely purchase the product, no matter how much the price tag makes me cringe.

  • Trust Fund Beauty in Method to the Madness (trustfundbeauty.com, $18)

Just like The Organic Pharmacy lip and eye cream, this product helped my lips start to heal and the color was not too bad either. This product is not advertised to help dry and cracked lips, but I find that the glossy consistence helped seal in moisture during my times of chapped lips.

  • Hey Honey Besame Mucho Lip Balm (Ulta, $14)

I LOVE this lip balm. I am a lip balm junkie, I had tried a lot of lip balms and this product is one of my favorites. The product has the ingredient shea butter which smells and feels wonderful. I did not know that I would enjoy the product as much as I do because it feels a little oily on the lips upon application, but the product sinks in after a few minutes and then it is perfect!

Skin Care

  • Promise Organic Nourishing Coconut Milk Face Lotion with Hibiscus (CVS, $14.99)

Not only does this product feel nice and moisturizing on the skin, it has a wonderful scent. I love coconut milk as a moisturizer so when I received this product I was super excited to use it. Needless to say, I have not been disappointed yet. I have combination skin and this product does not make my t-zone more oily while giving the rest of my face some much needed moisture, which is perfect for me. Overall, I am excited to purchase full size when I run out!

  • Promise Organic Nourishing Coconut Milk Daily Facial Scrub with Walnuts and Sugar (CVS, $9.99)

I absolutely love when I get products that either correspond or are from the same brand. I was very excited to receive this product shortly after the face lotion and now I use them together. The scrub is not harsh on my slightly sensitive skin and it smells wonderful. This product has a very grainy consistency that helps the product smooth the skin and is not harsh so it is perfect for everyday use. To conserve product, I use it every few days, especially just before makeup application so that I will have an even surface and product will not grab at dead skin.

Face

  • theBalm Cosmetics Hot Mama Blush (thebalm.com, $20)

I have received a few blushes, but this one is by far my favorite. I love the color and that you can build it up. I also enjoy the subtle gleam that it gives my cheeks, making me look lively even though I am very pale. This blush gives the illusion that you are wearing a highlight!

  • Nomad Cosmetics Illuminating Highlighter in Midnight Sun (nomadcosmetics.com, $47 pallette)

I have a few favorite highlights, but this is by far my favorite. It shines golden in the light and gives a beautiful glow. It does not look like you are wearing highlight aside from the fact that when the light hits your cheekbones you have a blinding shine. I love wearing this anytime of day, but it makes the perfect night-out highlight.

  • Tarte Amazonian clay waterproof bronzer (Ulta, $30)

I enjoyed that this product was a pretty decent size; therefore, I will not have to buy the full size for a bit. This product is great for my skin tone and does not look muddy. It blends beautifully and gives you room to build the product. It gives me a bronze glow without actually having a tan. This is my go-to bronzer!

Nothing is more exciting than sending a gift to yourself every month, so maybe next month you can treat yourself with a makeup subscription!

I may never win a Pulitzer, but I will be doing something that makes me happy and I would not change that.
