‘Framing Britney Spears’ is a documentary on Hulu produced by The New York Times. This episode is a part of a series that highlights different events in America. The latest episode covers the phenomenon of Britney Spears and her eventual downfall.

Aside from being entertaining, this documentary was really eye-opening into the ways that the media treats women differently from men. Britney was sexualized and fetishized from a young age, while many of her male colleagues did not face this same thing. For example, during her relationship with Justin Timberlake, Britney was asked about whether or not she was still a virgin and there was a lot of fascination surrounding her sex life. She was also made out to look like a horrible girlfriend and a lot of the blame for the breakup between her and Justin was put on Britney.

The documentary also covers Britney’s career downfall and provides a lot of context into why she made a lot of the decisions that she did. For me at least, this documentary put a lot of things into perspective and made me think about the Britney Spears situation completely differently. I think it provides a lot of insight into the unfair ways in which the media treats women.

It is a really eye-opening documentary that I think everyone should watch. It will most likely make you view not only Britney Spears differently, but many other female celebrities as well.
