One major downside to going to school online is not being able to make connections the way we are used to. When classes are in person, you are able to build relationships with your professors and peers. While it is definitely more difficult to make connections from home, it is not impossible.

 Attend virtual office hours

Unless you actively participate in your virtual class, it is unlikely your professor will remember you once the class is over. If your class is online, I recommend attending your professor’s virtual office hours at least once. It is an opportunity for you to get to know each other the way you would if your class was in person.

Reach out to your classmates

Your classmates are some of the most important connections you will make in college. While classes are online, you should still try to get to know your peers. A great way to do this is by making a group chat using an app like GroupMe. The group chat will allow you all to get to know one another and even set up virtual study groups.

Use LinkedIn

If you don’t have a LinkedIn account, you should definitely make one. LinkedIn is one of the easiest ways to make and keep up with connections. You are able to search for people based on things like their college or the companies they have worked for. Start by building your profile and connecting with your peers and coworkers. Then, try finding alumni from your school who works for your dream company, send them a message introducing yourself and set up a virtual meeting.

Making connections is really important for college students. Hopefully these tips will help you with making those connections from home.
