Building a Healthy Relationship Online

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

With the creation of online dating platforms, it has been made easier for individuals to find themselves a potential romantic partner. Of course, though, there are valid concerns when it comes to meeting strangers online. How do you know the person you’re speaking with is being truthful? How can you know if they’ll be the one if you don’t meet in person?

Healthiness is the key to romantic relationships, which is why it’s important to build a healthy profile in online dating communities such as Bumble. Bumble is one of the top online dating platforms of today, and they are committed to making sure their users find potential partners in a safe and healthy environment.

So, how exactly does one build a healthy relationship online? Just follow these tips below and you’ll find your way there!

Show Your True Self

As most of us know, catfishing is a major problem in online dating communities. For those of you who don’t know, catfishing is when someone creates a fake online persona in order to trick people. Romantic relationships are built on trust, so don’t lie about yourself in order to impress others! Also, if you suspect that someone you’re talking with is a catfish, it’s probably best to break it off early so you don’t get in too deep.

Open Communication

In my opinion, one of the easiest ways for a relationship to fall apart is when people in one aren’t communicative. Misunderstandings happen, which is why it’s important to voice concerns as soon as they come up and not let them stew. It’s difficult for people to tell what one wants if words aren’t used – we aren’t mind readers, after all. If you’re in a budding relationship and have something important to say, let it be known.

Working Together

Relationships are a two-way street. If you find yourself putting all the effort into a relationship while getting nothing in return, it’s probably not going to work out in the long run. An individual’s needs are important; however, it’s important to keep your partner in mind as well. Relationships last long when both parties work together to make sure needs are met and everyone is happy.

Healthiness is important for any form of relationship, but it is essential for romantic ones. If you follow the tips listed above, you’ll be on your way to building a healthy online relationship. Stay safe!
