Bucket Lists: Every Girl Needs One

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

How many of you all are guilty of saying, “Oh, I’ll do that someday,” or “I have my whole life to do that”?

I know I am; I’ve said these exact same words more than once.

This, my dears, is where a bucket list comes in handy. Every girl needs one. It is an unofficial written document, with our hopes and dreams listed on a sheet of paper. With each item you check off of your bucket list, the more content and happy you’ll feel with your life.

If you’re not sure where to begin with creating your bucket list, here are some ideas to help get you started!

  • Travel, travel, and more travel. We all want adventure in our lives and to experience new things. What better way to do this than by going somewhere new? Whether it’s your dream vacation spot, road tripping across the states, or flying to another country—adventures are out there and waiting for us to find them.

  • Meet your idol. The celebrity sweetheart, the sports superstar or the unbelievable singer—everyone has at least one famous idol that either inspires his or her fans or is just an all-around awesome person. And, this person deserves to meet you, a.k.a their biggest fan.

  • Be spontaneous. Feeling adventurous? Randomly decide to go skydiving one day. Or, if you’re feeling aquatic, go swimming with the dolphins. Do something you normally wouldn’t just for fun. And, don’t make any plans beforehand. Just go with it. Because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love a little spontaneity?

  • Take up a new hobby. Trying something new is a great way to increase your confidence as well as your independence. Here, the options are limitless; you could pick up tap dancing, photography, running or even underwater basket weaving—do something you’ve always wanted to.

  • Inspire someone. Be a role model for someone else. Change someone else’s life for the better; be their motivation to strive for the best person they can be. There is nothing more rewarding than having someone look you in the eye, acknowledging that you’re a big part of that person’s success and happiness.

These are just some simple ideas, but the list doesn’t stop here. Oh, no! Your bucket list can go on for as long as you want it to—but, here’s the catch: you have to actually do what’s written down on your bucket list.

Remember, ladies: you owe it to yourselves to go after the things you want in life. And, a bucket list may be just the thing you need to get the ball rolling!

Well, what are you waiting for? Get to making your own bucket list!

"Sam I am," and I LOVE to read. Whether it's Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" or The Mortal Instruments series, I'm always reading. And when I'm not reading, I'm writing; English papers, magazine editorials, you name it! Italian food is my favorite, shoe shopping is my addiction, and I hate cold weather. I'm also a proud member of Slytherin house (we're not all bad, I swear).
