Getting ready and taking care of your skin can be a hassle, especially while at college. Here are a few tips and tricks that will improve your everyday routine for little to no cost:

Makeup:

  1. Pour a few drops of contact solution into your mascara tube if it is flaky or dry.

  2. Heat up your eyelash curler with a hair dryer to make the curl last longer.

  3. Use clear mascara as eyebrow gel to set your eyebrows in place all day.

  4. Or, use chapstick to set them (just rub the stick over your eyebrow).

  5. Use scotch tape to create the perfect winged eyeliner.

  6. Coconut oil as makeup remover: With a little bit of water, coconut oil can remove even waterproof makeup.

  7. Coconut oil as a lip gloss: apply a thin layer to your lips for a moisturizing clear lip gloss.

  8. To avoid lipstick stains on your teeth, stick your index finger in your mouth and then pull it out; you should see a ring of lipstick on your finger.

  9. Contour in the shape of a three on the side of your face for a more natural, bronzy look.

  10. Dust a light eyeshadow onto the center of your lips (after applying lipstick; usually white eyeshadow works best) to make them look fuller and plumper.

  11. Dip a brush into a mascara tube to double as cream eyeliner.

  12. Mix Vaseline with lipstick to create a cream blush.

  13. Apply your under-eye concealer in the shape of a triangle to brighten your eyes.

  14. If you run out of setting spray, use hairspray. Just make sure it is very far away from your face and that your eyes are closed, but it should make your makeup stick all day.

  15. Lay a tissue over your lips and dust translucent powder over it to make your lipstick last longer.

Hair:

  1. Spray hairspray onto bobby pins to make them stay in your hair longer.

  2. If you do not have dry shampoo and do not have time to shower, dust a little baby powder onto the roots of your hair to absorb the oil.

  3. Tame your baby hairs and flyaways by spraying a little hairspray onto a toothbrush.

  4. Braid your hair after showering and leave in overnight for loose waves, then spray with sea salt spray in the morning.

  5. Coconut oil as a hair mask: Apply it to your hair, wrap it up and let it sit overnight. Then wash it out in the morning.

  6. Brush your hair from the bottom up to get rid of tangles and not damage your hair.

Face/Body:

  1. Apply Vaseline to your wrists or neck before applying perfume to make the scent last longer.

  2. Buy cleansing wipes for those nights when you are too lazy to wash your face but still want to take care of your skin.

  3. Coconut oil as a body moisturizer: This is great to do after laying out in the sun all day as it puts the moisture back into your skin and even helps your tan last longer.

  4. Use conditioner as shaving cream if you run out.

  5. Rub a dryer sheet on your clothes to get out a deodorant stain.

  6. Use highlighter on your collarbones to make them pop more and to make your skin glow.

  7. Mix a little liquid highlighter with lotion and apply on your legs to make them look shiny and slim (this works great over the summer to highlight your tan).

  8. Soak your nails in lemon juice every so often to strengthen them.

  9. Mix brown sugar and honey to create a lip scrub.

  10. Place dry green tea bags on your eyes to reduce puffiness.
