There are truths that we instill in ourselves. Truths that make us a better person and give us our character. Truths that give us a sense of pride in ourselves and in others. Below are some quotes that have become truths for me and you should consider them truths for yourself as a collegiette.

1. “She believed she could so she did.” – R.S Grey

In college it is easier to doubt yourself than it is to believe. This is a good quote to read when you feel as though you failed or that things could have gone better. This should serve as a reminder that if you believe in yourself, you can do anything you set your mind to.

2.  “Well behaved women rarely make history.”- Eleanor Roosevelt

This is a personal favorite of mine. This quote reminds us to speak out and stand up for what we believe in. If you have something to say, say it. Your opinions and thoughts matter, so do not let people silence you.

3. Nevertheless she persisted.”- Mitch McConnell (in response to Elizabeth Warren)

There will eventually be a time in your college career when circumstances are pressuring you to quite. We should look at this quote as a push to continue. We will all face roadblocks but you can’t let those them stop you from accomplishing your dreams.

4. “Don’t look back you’re not going that way.” – Mary Engelbreit

This quote is a good reminder to not get stuck on the past. If something did not turn out the way you wanted, reflect and then move on. Mistakes are made so we can learn from them. Once we do that the only other direction to go is forward.

5. “When you feel like quitting remember why you started.”- Unknown

This is especially important in college. There comes a time (or several) when you get discouraged and want to quit. When this happens you need to remember why you came to school in the first place. You have goals you want to reach and quitting will not help you accomplish them.

6. “You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it.”- Unknown

I like to think that we are not given anything in life that we can not  handle. When we face a setback we may believe we can not handle it, but we can. Life is going to push your buttons but you can overcome anything it throws at you.

7. “She remembered who she was and the game changed.” -Lalah Delia

There comes a time when everyone loses confidence in themselves, but once you remember who you are, it will come back. After this you will become unstoppable. Then the people around you will have to change, instead of you changing for them.

8. “Know that you can start late, look different, be uncertain, and still succeed.”- Misty Copeland

This is another one of my all time favorite quotes. Whenever I feel discouraged, especially when it comes to keeping up with my peers in my major, I look at this. I do not have the same amount of experience as other people in my major, but this quotes reminds me that it doesn’t matter. If you are determined and work hard, it does not matter when you start or if the only woman or minority. You can still accomplish your dreams.

9. “If you don’t like being a doormat then get off the floor.”- Al Anon

A lot of times it is easy to let people walk all over us, or take advantage of us. We do this to be polite, but some people take advantage of that, especially at school. If you do not stand up for yourself, no one will.

10. “The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” -Ayn Rand

To end this article I would like to remind everyone that we are in control of our own lives. If you want to do something, go somewhere, be someone, then DO IT! You’re the only person that can stop yourself from going after the things you want in life. I wholeheartedly believe that all of us can accomplish whatever we set our minds to.

I would like to include a special thanks to my mother and sister for instilling in me these truths that I have shared with you.
