Why You Should Get A Polaroid Camera

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

1. Polaroids bring back a wave of nostalgia

Polaroid cameras instantly print out the photos you take, and they were the thing to have growing up. When I was a kid, I had a big old Polaroid camera that I shared with my siblings. One day it ran out of film and ended up on a shelf somewhere, as the wave of digital cameras took over. Yet in the spirit of all things retro coming back, they instantaneously returned to the market. Best Buy sells Fujifilm Polaroid cameras for $59.99. The film is sold separately and generally comes in a pack of 10 sheets. Two packs of film (20 sheets total) can be purchased for $14.99 at Best Buy.

2. “Shake it, shake it like a Polaroid picture.”-OutKast

After you snap a shot on a Polaroid camera, the film slides out, and you shake it until the image becomes clear. The film is initially white, and as you shake it the picture begins to appear. I don’t know if this actually does anything to make the process go faster, but it is very fun to do!

3. One Polaroid photo is more valuable than a thousand slightly different photos on your phone

While having easy access to a camera on your phone is convenient, it will never replace the feeling of holding a physical photo in your hand. Polaroid pictures capture a moment in one shot, which makes it that much more sentimental.
