I know our social media has been blowing up with a million things on the Women’s March, but I was lucky enough to participate in it. If anyone of you got the chance to participate in the Women’s March whether it was in Chicago or elsewhere, then you know how wonderful it was. I was able to share this special moment with my mom and my friends. It was a moment that I won’t forget. It amazed me to see 250,000 people band together as a united front. The thing was it wasn’t just women that marched with us because men marched with us too. There was so much diversity in the march. There was young, old, black, white, gay, straight and so on.
The march wasn’t a disgrace as some people may believe. I marched for all women whether or not they agreed with it. I marched for those that aren’t able to stand up for what they believe in. I marched for the future generations to come. I marched for those before me who have fought for us. I marched for my mother and grandmother who raised me to be a strong woman. I marched for my friends who have helped me become a strong woman. I marched for the strong women that inspire me daily. I marched for myself.
I marched for our rights. Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble, but we aren’t equal. I can go out and say I’m equal to a man, but I’m not. I marched because it is finally time to fight for our rights as a woman. I’m ready to see a change where I’m actually equal to a man and to continue the goals set by the strong women before me, those currently, and those in the future. I won’t let us go on being treated unfairly because we are a woman. When they tell us that we are equal, it won’t be something they say to pacify us, but something that is true.
The motion has been set ladies and it is our time. It is finally time to speak up and fight. We will no longer be silent. We will no longer be told what to do. This is our world too and not just a man’s. If you do not fight, I will fight for you. If you cannot speak, I will speak for you. If you are afraid, I will be brave for you. I am a nasty woman and I will continue to resist.
