Want to Get Out of Chicago Without Actually Leaving? Visit Three Dots and a Dash!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

I’m from Jamaica so I love anything with an island theme. What screams island more than a tiki bar? Three Dots and a Dash is a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere is really cool as a wall of skulls leads you downstairs to the bar. By having the bar completely underground with dark lighting, Three Dots takes you to another place. No seriously, you wont even get a cellphone signal down there.

I hope you like rum because there is rum in every drink. Three Dots prides itself on having some of the best rums from a variety of islands. The drink menu is far from the ordinary.

Each drink comes out exactly as pictured. I love sitting at the bar because you get to see all the work first hand. The amount of passion and concentration that goes into making these cocktails is incredible. A good amount of time is simply spent garnishing the drinks. The garnishes include leaves, flowers, pineapples, thick wooden straws, cocktail umbrellas, and my personal favorite, the banana dolphin. They really go all out to give you something different.

Waiting almost 10 minutes for a drink anywhere else would be frustrating, but here, it is worth it. Now I know $13 a cocktail is a little pricey, but trust me, you get what you pay for. The majority of drinks have at least three different rums, so yes they are very potent. The mugs for these drinks are so cool; you’ll wish you had them at home. Also, you can buy any of the mugs at the bar for $15-$20. My personal favorite is Bunny’s Banana Daiquiri. It’s essentially an alcoholic banana smoothie, and it is absolutely delicious.

This place gets really packed on the weekends. So if you’re like me and prefer a more relaxed setting, go during the week or on a Sunday night. If you do go on a Friday or Saturday, head there early because the line gets pretty long by 10pm. Also, be prepared to be a little lost because the entrance is in an alley. Three Dots is perfect for any occasion. Whether its date night with your hubby, a friend’s birthday, or you simply want to have a great night, I guarantee you will love it. So go, and go now. Escape the city at Three Dots and a Dash!
