Tired Of Dull Looking Skin? Here’s 5 Home Remedies For Glowing Skin You Should Try Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Have you ever looked in the mirror and noticed your skin looking a little dry and lackluster? Well, you could be experiencing dull skin. We all want to have that glowing look that exudes radiance and appears bright. When the skin appears dull, it tends to look like it lacks vitality and doesn’t reflect the light in the same way healthy looking and well cared for skin should.

Our skin is fragile. So fragile that something as small as getting less sleep than you should can prevent you from looking your best. To achieve that radiant and healthy look you’re after, you should first figure out what could be causing the dullness to begin with.

A few major factors of dull and dry looking skin involve: smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, dehydration, too much exposure to sun, and poor diet.

It’s important to take the necessary steps to better help your skin recover its youthful glow. Stay clear of those nasty chemicals that could prevent you from that natural look. Besides, the more chemicals we use to get rid of acne, dark spots, dryness, and oils, the more damage we can cause to our skin.

But sometimes, your skin can make you look lifeless and can cause you to consider those store-bought face masks and scrubs. However, we don’t have to take that risk. To get your appearance looking healthy again, all you need is a little moisturization, and a few home remedies are the safest way to get clear skin in under 10 days.

Here are 5 home remedies you can do at home:

1. Virgin Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil locks the moisture in the skin and also nourishes it with essential fatty acids. Its phenolic compounds contribute to its antioxidant activity and gives you glowing skin!

What to do:

1. Lightly warm up the oil and apply onto the face and neck

2. Massage for a few minutes in gentle circular motions

3. Leave the oil on overnight

You can do this every night before going to bed.

  • You can also add some sugar to the oil and use it as a scrub to exfoliate your skin once or twice a week

2. Lemon & Sugar:

Sugar granules help to get rid of dead cells. Lemon cleanses, bleaches, and also removes tan. It is one of nature’s best skin brightening agents.

What to do:

1. Mix 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of sugar and apply the mixture to your face

2. Scrub in a circular motion and leave it on for 10 minutes

3. Rinse off with warm water to reveal glowing skin

You can do this twice a week.

3. Honey: Honey has antimicrobial and hygroscopic properties that clean and make your skin soft. It is rich in antioxidants that make the skin soft and healthy and also reduce blemishes.

What to do:

1. Apply honey evenly on clean and damp skin

2. Massage it for a few minutes and leave it on for another five minutes

3. Wash the honey off with lukewarm water

You can apply the honey to your skin every other day.

4. Milk & Honey:

Many legends say that Cleopatra’s beauty routine always incorporated honey and milk. Raw milk contains skin-friendly ingredients such as saturated fat, protein, calcium, and vitamin C. Honey is also known for it’s moisturizing and antibacterial properties.

What to do:

1. Mix 2 teaspoons of milk, 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of besan (gram/chickpea flour) to form a homogenous paste

2. Apply all over your face and leave it on for 20 minutes to allow the paste to dry

3. Rinse off with warm water

You can do this twice a week.

5. Olive Oil & Warm Water:

Olive oil is an excellent skin moisturizer and renders a natural shine as well. The flavonoids and polyphenols present in it protect the skin from free radicals and prevent damage. It repairs the skin cells and makes them healthy and glow naturally.

What to do:

1.Place a few drops of oil on your fingertips and apply it all over your face and neck

2. Massage it into your skin in a circular motion for two to three minutes, paying extra attention to your cheeks, nose, and forehead

3. Dip a towel in the warm water, remove the excess water, and place this on the face for 30 to 40 seconds

4. Dip the towel again in the warm water and gently wipe away the oil with it

5. Pat your skin dry with a paper towel if required

You can do this every night before bed.
