The combination of volunteering and chocolate took place on November 8th for the Her Campus UIC attendees. McCormick Place had us step into a chocolate wonderland! With inflatable mugs, free samples, and the smell of fresh chocolate in the air, all of us were excited to be a part of this volunteer experience.

There were different stations to lend a hand. The runners picking up their goodie bags saw the Her Campus group working the merchandise shop that sold the Hot Chocolate Run apparel. We were in charge of restocking the products and assisting customers. Some of the girl’s previous retail experiences kicked in. Our team was also able to talk with runners and share one anothers experiences with previous Hot Chocolate Run races. We pulled through a long shift of hard work and were able to eat some yummy treats along the way!

The race itself was a huge success that took place at Grant Park the day after. Congrats to all the runners that participated and finished the race! Support from family and friends was definitely present during the volunteer day expo event and actual race day. The things we do for chocolate was definitely shown through this well organized event!

Irais is pursuing a marketing major at The University of Illinois at Chicago. Coming from the small country town of Harvard, Illinois, she knows there's a whole neighborhood left for her to explore. Checking off her bucket list activities is what she does in the afternoons and weekends when she’s not napping. She currently cherishes her vast music playlist, Netflix account, Pinterest boards, and her growing show collection of Chucks and wedges. Catch her trying to Penny board to class.
