Second Week Spring Semester in Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Collegiettes, can you believe we are already finished with the second week of our spring semester? Where did the time go?

So far, I am loving my class schedule and the classes I am taking. This semester is different than my past semesters at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). I have no classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. However, on Tuesdays and Thursdays I have class from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. with a discussion on Friday mornings. Additionally, I am exclusively taking courses for my major and minor; it is also lovely seeing familiar faces in four out of my five classes.

My two favorite classes, at the moment, are English 383: Writing for Digital and New Media and Communication 200: Communication Technologies. My English 383 classroom mimics a press room, I enjoy having the computer in front of me for hands-on and interactive learning, and the skills I am learning can be applied toward my future internships and choice of career. It is also interesting to learn that my Communication 200 class is very similar to my English 383 course; for example, I will be learning how to code for these two classes.

Honestly, it can be a bit overwhelming and will take some time to get use to having classes back to back on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I suggest you sit next to a friend, bring plenty of snacks to class, and you will be fine – most of the professors at UIC are very understanding.

So far, this routine is going really well for me; I have more free time, and it feels great to have two days without having to worry about going to class. I can run errands with my family, spend time with them, or I have the option of coming to the UIC library to exclusively study or complete my assignments.

Feel free to share your spring semester with us!
