While first meeting Rochelle Washington through the UIC fashion show, she shared her story of rising to become the Operations Fashion Chair.  Before she became involved in the show, she was never really involved in anything fashion related.

She first auditioned during her freshman year because she thought it would be “fun to be in a fashion show and [she] wanted to meet people at UIC.”  She loved being involved with the show and wanted to hold a higher position.  Thus, her sophomore year, she was selected to be a coordinator.  After her hard work as a coordinator, her junior year, she was selected to be on the executive board as the Operations Chair.

Because of her dedication to her position, she continued with Operations Chair into this year.  As this position, she choreographed the opening scenes.  She chose this executive position instead of others at UIC because she felt this would showcase her talents best.  One of her talents, choreography, came from her 13 years of dance and cheerleading in high school.

Career wise, her interests stemmed towards science because she saw herself studying biological sciences for years to come.  As a child, she participated in science fairs and played around with chemistry kits.  Furthermore, these interests led her to thinking of going into the field of dentistry because she felt that they help “people feel better physically and aesthetically about themselves.”

With the fashion show as well as trying to get accepted into a dental school, also wants to have a husband and children.  The aspirations of family stemmed from her mom.  Her mom obtained her doctorate and provided for Rochelle.  Rochelle wants to continue with her mom’s balance of work and family by providing for her future children.
