Even if you eat lots of food low in fat, this does not mean that you automatically lose weight. There is a reason why this is so. An investigation showed that if you tell a person that what they are eating is low in fat, then they will eat more. And more food, even though it considered a “diet” or “low fat” food, means more calories.
Although the label of a package can make all sorts of promises such as “half fat”, the reality of a product is on the nutritional information. For example, you will find that some cookies that are considered “low fat” are 50 calories each, so you should not eat a second or more than one package. Be sure to read this information so you know what you are really consuming.
Next time you want to eat something low in fat, choose vegetables: these are low in calories and fill you up more. A study at Pennsylvania State University showed that women who ate a large salad before their meal; with lettuce, carrots, celery, tomatoes and cucumber, along with low fat dressing and low fat cheese, were more satisfied than those that did not and therefore ate less later.
To accompany your salad, choose a low-calorie dressing. This will not ruin your diet and will encourage you to eat more of your salad because it will be delicious! The next time you buy something that promises to be a “low fat” or “fat free”, make sure it is! What is your favorite low-fat product?
