Four Must See Movies this Fall!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.
With the fall weather finally rolling in, it can get quite chilly. We think that one of the best ways of staying warm and still having fun is going to see a movie. Fall is one of the best times to see new releases, especially if you like scary movies. Here are a few of our suggestions for new releases to see!

Gravity

Have you ever wanted to be an astronaut? This movie starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney puts you in the shoes of a new astronaut (Bullock) going on her first mission. Soon, things spin out of control and you realize a horror you’ve never had: accidentally losing hold of your attachment and having to drift through space alone with no chance of survival? Having earned a lot of high ratings, this space thriller is a fall must-see (also, it’s available in 3D)! In theaters now.

Carrie

“What would you do if you realized you had the power to change everything?” This re-adaption of the 1976 film (based on Stephen King’s original novel) will be released just before Halloween. Every high school girl’s worst nightmare is not fitting in and being made fun of. Carrie’s mother, played by Julianne Moore, has certain religious practices that bring out Carrie’s special power and also create the enemy she never dreamed of. Grab a group of friends and see what happens. In theaters 10/18.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Even though there is still a month until its release, don’t miss the second installment of the popular Hunger Games series. Katniss and Peeta have won the tournament but that does not mean that they are safe. In fact, their triumph has led to a mess of political rules and regulations now that the people in all districts have been given hope. Since Katniss and Peeta represent that hope, neither of them can come away unscathed. Watch what happens in a world unimaginable where your life depends on a game. In theaters 11/22.

The Counselor:

Directed by Ridley Scott, this upcoming thriller has a cast of big names behind it. Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, and Michael Fassbender all play characters that are involved in the world of drug trafficking as Fassbender’s character gets deeper into the job. Even if you don’t like danger or thrills, the star-studded cast will be fun to watch. In theaters 10/25.

Grab some popcorn and settle in. Whether it’s a thriller, space adventure, or scary movie, we are sure that you will be able to find something you like in the 2013 fall lineup. There are new movies out every week worth going to. Remember certain theaters have student discounts at select days and times so be sure and have your school ID with you and save those few extra bucks. Have fun!
