Once Halloween has come and gone, it’s easy to immediately fall into the Christmas spirit. Stores start replacing scary decorations and candy with stocking stuffers and holiday decor. Poor Thanksgiving gets forgotten in the hype for flashier winter holidays. Here’s why I think Thanksgiving deserves more appreciation.

The Food

Need I say more? From delicious main courses to delectable desserts, Thanksgiving food has something to please everyone. There is also a sense of community in a Thanksgiving meal, where everyone offers help and contributes their own dishes to create a meal worth being thankful for.

No Gifts

Thankfully, Thanksgiving is not a gift-giving holiday. You don’t have to worry about finding the perfect present for everybody. Instead, you get to spend time around the people you love. Your presence alone is the best gift you can give.

Friends and Family

Whether you choose to gather with family, host a Friendsgiving, or both, Thanksgiving offers you the chance to hang out with everyone you care about. For one day you can celebrate how thankful you are for one another, as corny as it may sound.

The Break

Thanksgiving comes at just the right time, offering a brief break before finals week begins. For a couple of days, you can forget about school and enjoy some time off. Use your break to recharge for the final stretch of the school year. Plus, if you feel like braving the crowds, Black Friday is the perfect chance for a little therapeutic shopping.

Autumn Vibes

If you’re like me, you don’t want to say goodbye to the autumn aesthetic after Halloween is gone. Thanksgiving allows you to embrace pumpkin spice and orange sweaters for a whole extra month! Hold off on the tinsel and bows for a little bit and enjoy the harvest season.
