Chicago’s Favorite Season is Back!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Beginning October 15 to 21, Her Campus UIC is partnering with Her Campus UCLA to compare the differences between Chicago and Los Angeles. #HCUICLA is our social media hashtag on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; don’t miss out!

Sweet home, the season of change is finally here. Leaves are changing their colors, women are changing their wardrobes, and coffee shops are changing their menus to pumpkin-spice everything. For many, in the Windy City, this is the best time of the year. We are finally getting over the hot summer days where nothing beats staying inside with the air conditioner on full blast. Yet, it is the calm before the storm meaning we are only a few months away from the temperatures dropping below zero.

After all, nothing says “Welcome to Chicago” like a slap of cold air to the face. Regardless, there’s plenty to do around the city during the Fall.

One of the more popular activities in the Chicagoland area are visits to the pumpkin farms. This is the time when Instagram feeds get flooded with pictures of couples eating kettle corn or posing by pumpkins they probably won’t take home anyway. There’s something about getting away from the city chaos for a while and relaxing with loved ones that makes these farms/festivals a popular attraction.

Also, with the start of lower temperatures comes an increase of cappuccino intakes. Students flood the small cafe shops near campus, in search of a cozy place to study and a warm drink.

At night, the city is buzzing with residents enjoying a beer or two at their favorite sports bar. It’s the season to keep up with the World Series, yell at the television during Bears games, and cheer on the Bulls and Blackhawks at the United Center.

Speaking of World Series, last year the Cubs really made our city proud, and we showed it at the celebratory parade where thousands of fans made an appearance. Chicago was flooded with all blue attire, and the “W” flag was posted on almost every single storefront, actually, they’re still present. The surrounding streets by Wrigleyville were completely shut down, and it was a week-long celebration. This year, we expect to celebrate for at least a month if they bring home the trophy again, so all fingers are crossed.

Also, Chicago opened up America’s first Nutella Cafe, over the summer, right in the heart of downtown which is another popular attraction for people of all ages.

Overall, it is hard to be bored in such a place that has so much to offer. The city of Chicago is unique to any other, at any given time, but the Fall season might just be our forte.
