The Art of Cleaning: Fantastic Cleaning Supplies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

I don’t know if it’s age, but I’ve become really invested in finding the right cleaning products recently. Cleaning has become an interest of mine because I appreciate a clean house, and since we must all become independent, learning which cleaning supplies are the best to get the job done will save you time and money. I bought and tried many of these products because of TikTok, so definitely hop on the app for more recommendations from people who are cleaning experts. I’ll also include products I plan on trying out.

Dawn Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray

The Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray has become popular and I’ve seen many people recommend it on TikTok. I bought it not too long ago from Target, and it’s worth the hype! So far, I’ve used it to clean the stove and bathroom, and it is great for removing tough grease stains. As a bonus, the dish spray foams up nicely and smells amazing.

Swiffer Duster

Dust accumulates everywhere and it’s annoying dealing with it all the time. If you need help getting rid of the dust or spiderwebs around your house, Swiffer Dusters are great for cleaning surfaces and walls.

Scrub Daddy and Mommy Sponge

The Scrub Daddy and Mommy Sponges are other popular items I’ve seen all over TikTok. These sponges are cool because they are scratch free and are meant to be great for deep cleaning. I recently purchased a Scrub Mommy Sponge and although I haven’t used it much, my early impressions are that it is a good cleaning product because it appears to be durable.

Twist Mop

If you’re on a budget and don’t have 100+ dollars to spend on a Roomba or any other pricey floor cleaning device, then a twist mop is a pretty good option. I currently have a Libman White Tornado Twist Mop and an O-Cedar MicroTwist Microfiber Twist Mop. I like these mops because you don’t have to twist them yourself to squeeze the water out. Therefore, they’re easy to use and you save time. They’re also affordable, costing $10.00 each.

Extendable Tile Scrubber

Cleaning bathrooms can be a pain, especially if you have a bathtub. However, an Extendable Tile Scrubber can make cleaning bathrooms much easier, since you can avoid getting on your knees or bending your back. The Clorox Extendable Pole Tub & Tile Scrubber and Scotch-Brite Non-Scratch Tub and Shower Scrubber are two good options to go with. I also like this scrubber because you can get scrubbing pad replacements, so don’t wait!

There is a lot to know about the art of cleaning, and there is much trial and error when it comes to determining which products make cleaning more efficient. These are a few of my current favorites, and I hope they help you all out in your cleaning endeavors!
