5 Ways to Make Your Room Holiday Themed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Spicing up your room with some holiday cheer might just be what you need to make your cold days a little more merry. Try these affordable ways to make your room cute for the holidays.

1. Get Fairy Lights or String Lights

Pretty lights are a perfect and cheap way to make your room not only more relaxing, but more holiday-themed. Whether you like delicate fairy lights or full-on string lights, both will look super cute. You could get green and red Christmas colors, but can also just get plain white or any color of your choosing, which will look equally as festive! You can get lights online or in store for less than $10!

2. Get a Holiday Scented Candle

Scents can totally shift your mood. Having a cozy scented holiday candle might be just what you need. You can get candles just about anywhere from online or in stores, but make sure it is a scent you enjoy. Not only are candles super aesthetically pleasing, but the scent will put you in that holiday mood!

3. DIY Pinecone String or Ribbon String

It is super easy to make a DIY pinecone string or ribbon string to hang around the perimeters of your room. For the pinecone string, you can buy scented pinecones from your craft store, or just get pinecones from outside. If you are using pinecones from outside, rinse them in warm water and sprinkle either peppermint essential oil or cinnamon powder on them. Seal the pinecones in a plastic bag and let them sit overnight. Take them out the next day, and use hot glue to glue them on a ribbon or string.  For the ribbon string, you can buy ribbon of any collar from the dollar store and make bows out of it. Next, hot glue them on a translucent string, or just the same color ribbon you used to make the bows. And there you go, that is all you need to do!

4. Holiday Candy Jar

This idea is super simple. Buy some of your favorite holiday-themed treats, whether they are chocolates, mints, or what have you, and put them in a cute mason jar. To add a cute touch, wrap a red ribbon and bow around the top.

5. Get a Mini Tree

You do not have to break the bank to get a cute fake tree for your room. More often than not, thrift stores sell all kinds of fake mini trees and holiday decor, look at your local thrift store and see what you can find!
