5 Ways To Embrace Your “Fridamania”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

The term “Fridamania” refers to the wave of obsession over the influential painter Frida Kahlo. Although her paintings are what made her famous, she also went down as one of history’s favorite feminists. Kahlo was a free thinker, who was way ahead of her time in her ideas and actions. Here are some ways to channel your inner Frida:

1. Purchase Frida Kahlo inspired nail polish/lipstick

Republic Nail Inc. has created a line of Frida Kahlo themed nail polishes and lipsticks. Both products come in a variety of vibrant colors, and each shade has its own unique sketch inspired by one of Kahlo’s art pieces! These products can be purchased for $8 a piece at CVS

2. Take an inside look at Frida Kahlo’s closet

Feed your curiosity by viewing pictures of the artist’s famous wardrobe, which were finally revealed to the public at an exhibition in the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico. Among the pieces on display, were a pair of gold cat-eye sunglasses, and a traditional style dress.

5. Take a page out of Frida Kahlo’s book

Frida Kahlo dared to be different. This was expressed through her artwork, but most importantly through the way she carried herself. Kahlo turned her back on the strong gender roles that existed throughout her lifetime and refused to conform to social norms such as removing facial hair. She drew herself with all her imperfections, and let the world see her for who she truly was. We should all reflect on Kahlo’s legacy, and embrace her as we walk through life.
