With finals on the horizon it’s important to find a quiet and/or conducive spot of your own to get studying. UIC’s large campus offers many great study spots, but here are ten options we picked as UIC favorites. Good luck on your finals, ladies!

  • Port Center Cafe: The Port Center Cafe is an excellent study spot. With a wide variety of coffee, drinks, and food, this cafe has everything you need! Just grab a table downstairs (or a booth upstairs) and settle in.

  • Inner Circle (SCE): Use the steps or tables of the inner circle as your new study spot, but only if you are okay with noise. This food hotspot can also be a great place to relax and go over some notes.

  • Fourth Floor of Library: The fourth floor of the library is a perfect place to work on group projects. Watch out, during finals it gets hard to find an open table!

  • Idea Commons (Library): The Idea Commons on the first floor of the library is a cool place to either study alone or work on projects with friends. There are even dry erase boards and curtains you can draw for extra privacy while practicing those tricky algorithms.

  • Study Rooms in Douglas Hall: If you want a more secluded place to work or study, the study rooms in Douglas Hall is the place for you. These rooms offer hookups to tv screens so you and your group can go over those daunting presentations.

  • Stairs of BSB (3rd floor): Big box steps in BSB have held many a students studying, watching tv, napping, etc. There’s just enough space to sprawl out with your things and get working.
  • Commuter Lounge: Although the title suggests this lounge is for commuters only, it’s not. Found in SCE, the commuter lounge has tons of seats and electrical outlets to charge up your computer. Sometimes it can get noisy with people chatting, but Dunkin Donuts is within walking distance so that’s a plus.
  • SCE Atrium (leading to dorms): The Atrium (as well as the chairs and seats on the second floor of SCE leading to the dorms) can be a perfect place to take a break between classes and read or go over notes. The computer lounge is nearby and vending machines are abundant.

  • Douglas Hall: The back hallways near the stairwells in Douglas Hall have comfy benches and couches that offer peace and quiet when classes are in session. It offers plenty of room to put your feet up.

  • Third Floor of Library: The third floor of the library offers semi-secret, quiet desks in the far outer corners. Walk through the aisles upon aisles of books towards the corners of the floor and you’ll find peace and quiet with single seated desks and privacy walls on each.
