Everyone loves a good girls’ night… but in today’s world, costs can add up quickly. Luckily for you, I have created a list of five fun, affordable, and college-budget-friendly activities for your next girl’s night!

1. Game Night

First on our list, game night! Now, I know a lot of people feel like game night is overrated, boring, or a headache for some (like me and Monopoly). However, it is a great way to keep the costs at a minimum and stay within a budget fit for college. Everyone will need to bring a card or board game and a snack. Now, if someone really doesn’t have one of these two lying around, you may need to rethink your friend choices…Kidding! But really, who doesn’t have at least a deck of cards?

If you’re stuck on what to bring, I’ve already got you covered. Here is a list of some of the most common classic games that are sure to bring some fun!

  • Monopoly
  • Scrabble
  • Clue
  • The Game of Life
  • Sorry
  • Uno
  • Skip-Bo

Those are just a few options that would be perfect to start with for your first game night. Of course, a quick Google search will give you many more options.

2. Picnic at the Park

Our next activity is super simple and has so much potential – a picnic at the park! This one is really good for keeping things low-cost, while also spending some much-needed time with your girls. You can even jazz it up with a good camera and some cute outfits. Cue the Instagram posts!

You have two ways you can do this. Have everyone contribute to a big picnic spread, or have everyone bring their own food to the park. Either way will bring a lot of fun, laughter, and joy.

3. Movie Night

When thinking about hanging out with your friends, sometimes we tend to overcomplicate things. You can have a fun, relaxed night with some movies at home and NOT break the bank. This one is a similar concept to a game night; everyone brings a snack to share!

You can also make choosing a movie fun. Have everyone fill out a slip of paper with their movie choice, put it in a bowl, and draw! If the night turns into a movie marathon, you have back-ups and can keep drawing.

4. D.I.Y. pizza night

Okay, this one is definitely my favorite one on this list. Think of how much fun this could be! I’m thinking heart-shaped pizzas, TONS of cheese, and so many topping options. A pizza night is also such a fun idea and fairly low-cost, depending on what toppings everyone wants. Good news… you can have everyone bring a topping of their choosing to share! This will also help keep the activity low-cost for everyone, and duh, that’s the whole point of this article.

5. PJs & Pancakes

Finally, we have my second-favorite idea. Dinner for breakfast in your PJs! This one is also potluck-style; everyone brings a fun breakfast-themed dish. Let’s be so honest: everyone loves a good pancake or two in their PJs, especially with your girls. You can also add an extra element of fun with a photo setup. If I were hosting this (which I might have to, the more I think about it), I would bring boas, fun party necklaces, and some funky glasses. Imagine the Fancy-Nancy style photos!

That brings us to the end of this article. I hope these ideas help you plan your next get-together stress free. My best advice for hosting a girl’s night is to divide the expenses between everyone, so all the elements are there without the burden falling on one person.

Also, don’t overthink it!! Planning a get together doesn’t have to be hard when you are with the right people. Something simple is perfect for a chance to catch up and spend time away from the stress of college life.

My name is Makiyah Mullins and I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis. I'm working on obtaining my bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences and plan to enter pharmacy school in the fall of 2027! I am originally from a much smaller town, but since moving here for college in fall of 2025, I've found I enjoy living in the city much more than I anticipated.

I currently hold a position in my professional fraternity, Kappa Epsilon. I am their social chair for the 2026-2027 academic year and absolutely love being a part of so many fun activities!

Outside of college you can usually find me outdoors, volunteering at my local soup kitchen, or with a good book!
