4 Ways to Trim Down for the Holiday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UH chapter.

The holidays are a time where you will see a lot of people you haven’t seen in a long time. From your favorite cousin in New York to your Aunt Patti that always makes sly comments on your weight. You will also see people you haven’t seen since you tossed your hat in the air at your high school graduation. Also, we must mention that the boy that broke your heart in high school comes home for the holidays too. We always want the people we know to see us looking our best, so here are some ways to help you shed some pounds before the holidays.

1. Drink Before You Eat

This is a tip that a lot of people don’t really talk about, but in my opinion it is the best one. Every time you are about to eat, grab a bottle of water and drink at least 16 ounces. Drinking water before eating has been shown to cause a lower caloric intake which helps you lose weight.

2. Don’t Make Your Coffee A Dessert

Coffee has weight loss benefits, but hold on before you go grab your venti caramel macchiato! In order for you to reap the benefits of coffee it must not be a dessert. That means to leave the sugar and cream on the condiment bar where it belongs. Black coffee has been shown to increase the metabolism and reduce the appetite.

3.Cut The Carbs

Carbohydrates are a love-hate type of thing. You love them because they taste good, but all they do is go straight to your midsection while tipping the scale to the right. So if you are trying to lose some weight before the holidays then this is the first thing you must reduce.

4.Work Off Those Calories

The gym is a very effective way to lose weight quick. It’s simple math! If you eat 1800 calories a day and burn 1000 calories at the gym, then your net caloric intake is only 800 calories. That is a formula for weight loss!
