Why Watching “Halloweentown” Makes Me Feel Like a Kid Again

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Every year as Spooky Season happens, I watch Halloween classics (read: not scary movies) such as Halloweentown. Halloweentown, I can honestly say, is my favorite Halloween movie. It makes me think of the old Disney Channel and watching Halloween flicks, as well as so many other childhood memories.

It first makes me think of fall and childhood trick-or-treating. The opening scene always reminds me of running around my neighborhood grabbing candy and going home to eat it all while I watch movies and Halloween-themed episodes. It’s crazy that the Cromwell family never got that Halloween experience because Gwen was so afraid.

It also makes me remember why I love Halloween. I love fantasy, sci-fi, and witchcraft. The Cromwell’s finding out they’re a family of witches and a whole separate world exists out there (that honestly looks so amazing that I used to dream about living in) is just like how I felt about Harry Potter, when he found out that he is a wizard and Hogwarts exists. The idea of fantasy and witchcraft has always drawn me in, ever since I was very little.

Halloweentown has also always reminded me of other childhood memories during the fall, like going to the Oconee Fall Festival, carving a pumpkin and eating its seeds, and seeing the leaves change color. Halloweentown is symbolic of everything fall and wonderful.

Seriously, if you’ve never seen it, you’re missing out. Watch it and be prepared to take a walk down memory lane just like me.
