Luke Hemmings is the lead singer of my favorite band, 5 Seconds of Summer. He has been my favorite member of the band for the past 6 years. Here are the top reasons why I love him so much:

His Talent

The main reason why I love Luke so much is his talent. His songwriting I especially admire, it’s evolved so much from “in my American Apparel underwear” to “deep to where your secrets are, where you’ve been a thousand times, take all of me.” He’s always been an extremely talented vocalist, and his smooth angelic vocals have only gotten better with time. His vocals now elevate the songs to a deeper emotional depth. With the last album, the band made the executive decision to have him sing most of it.

His Heart

Luke is one of the nicest celebrities, from what I’ve seen. When they would be out on tour before the Coronavirus of it all, sometimes he would go out of his way to meet fans, even if security didn’t want him too. He is so loyal to his bandmates, his girlfriend, and his fans. He goes above and beyond for them. He’s communicated with fans on Twitter quite a few times over the years even when we don’t really deserve it.

His Drive

His passion and drive for making music are what I love most about Luke because without it, 5SOS wouldn’t exist. This band has impacted my life in such a positive way I don’t know what I would do without them. I’m not the only one that feels that way—other fans would be lost, too, if Luke had never picked up his guitar and uploaded his first cover to YouTube 10 years ago. He’s also said in multiple interviews that he has always want to pursue music.

His Confidence

I’m so proud of the confidence he’s gained over the course of his time in the band. When they first started opening for One Direction, he was a shy, awkward teenager that was afraid to move on stage. But now, he’s truly found himself as a performer. I’m constantly blown away by his stage presence and his ability to engage a crowd like he couldn’t when they first started out. It’s also the confidence he’s gained off stage, too. He used to be afraid to put on lip balm in public for fear of judgement. Now he’s rocking his curly golden hair with make-up on magazine covers, not afraid to break gender roles.

His Smile

Luke’s smile is hands down my favorite thing about him—that and his laugh. He has a smile that could light up the world. It’s definitely lit my sky before on some of the darker days I’ve had in the past. When I’m feeling sad, I watch interviews or tour diaries (those are where the band is organically themselves). Luke’s smile and laugh can instantly turn my mood around. But most importantly, I love his smile because all I want is for him to be happy and living his best life.

At the end of the day, if I had to have a crush on a celebrity, I’m really glad it’s Luke Hemmings.
