Tips to Avoid Senioritis For the Senior Gal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Get ready ladies because it’s officially senior season! If you’re graduating in May or sometime over the summer, you’re either dreading the transition into the real world or super excited to move on to the next chapter in your life (for me, it’s the latter!). Especially near the end of the semester, it can be hard to stay motivated and keep your priorities in check when you’re as close to the finish line as you are! Senioritis has a tricky way of sneaking up on us, so check out these helpful tips if you find yourself slipping up during your last semester of senior year.

Keep the end goal in mind.

I know, I know — it sounds cliche…but you don’t lick a whole Tootsie pop if you aren’t trying to get to the center. You’re most likely in college to get a degree (I hope), and the only thing standing in between you and that goal is a couple more classes. Remind yourself of the rewards of having a degree and what incentivized you to go to college in the first place. It sometimes seems so far, but graduation day will be here before you know it!

Take advantage of college perks one last time.

Free food, athletic events, and resources upon resources just available to you because you’re a student? You know you’re going to miss it when it’s gone so soak it all up while you still can! You’ll likely come to appreciate the little things that you’ve grown to love throughout your college career, so that nostalgia can help to give you the extra push you need to persevere through the semester.

Find a way to stay organized.

Keep everything that you need to do straight by utilizing some kind of notebook or planner. The satisfaction of checking things off is often all the motivation you need to get more stuff done. It also never hurts to have an excuse to use fun gel pens or stickers either! By making a hobby out of it you can take more pride in getting things done to achieve your goals.

Don’t rob yourself of the joy of your next chapter.

Get excited about what comes after college! Whether that’s moving to a new city for a job, getting married, or whatever it might be. Just because you’re staying focused on finishing your degree right now doesn’t mean you can’t be ready and ecstatic to move on with your life. College is a crazy experience, but it’s only a stepping stone. Make plans and look forward to them because who knows what kinds of adventures you’ll depart on down the road?

Lean on your other senior friends — you’re all going through the same thing.

Everyone in your class is feeling what you’re feeling, so use that to your advantage! Talk about what you’re scared of in the future, and reminisce on the past four years of your life. If you have friends you’ve known since freshman year, they likely have been right there with you every step of the way and are trying to power through to the end like you are. Instead of moping about it and being lazy, feed off each other as a source of motivation. You’re never alone on this wild journey!

Stay focused and power through, ladies! It’s tough when you’re in the thick of it, but you’ll be turning the tassel before you know it, and you’ll wonder how you ever got through college in the first place! Go out there and have a strong semester start to finish!
