NAME: Kristine Bremer

YEAR: Junior

MAJOR: Management Information Systems

Hometown: Heidelberg, Germany

Relationship status: single

Fun fact: Although I am an American, but because I am a Military child, I have only lived in the States for three years of my life. Before coming to college I lived in Germany, and before that it was Belgium. I tend to feel foreign no matter where I go, but I would not want it any other way!

Hobbies/Activities: In between going to classes and studying, I like to keep myself busy. Whether it is short runs to admire the beauty of the outdoors, soccer scrimmages that remind me of how out of shape I am, or flag football games with good friends, I enjoy staying active. Also, showing love through serving others is another important part of my life. Taking time to visit the elderly at retirement homes or the homeless at shelters is an excellent way for me to give back to the Athens-Clarke County or my home back in Germany–both of which have given me more opportunities than I could ever take advantage of. Another important aspect of my life is my time for family and friends. There is very little I enjoy more than being in the presence of the wonderful role models of my life. Building my community in Athens and Heidelberg has been what keeps me strong in my studies, extra-curriculars and Faith, as well as given me the memories I hold most dear.

Favorite part of UGA: What I like most about UGA is the size of the school. Coming from not only a small High School, but also a small Military community, has been an interesting transition. But even with UGA being big, the area becomes a lot smaller as the years go by. Running into people all over campus becomes normal, but there is still the option of meeting someone new everyday. The size of the school also increases the amount of wonderful opportunities available for students.

Perfect Date Idea: Although I will tell people that I do not like surprises, sometimes I enjoy not knowing what the plan is (at least when I’m not busy guessing every detail). So, if I were to be surprised with a picnic followed by either a movie or a night of salsa, I wouldn’t complain! I am easily entertained as along as I am with good company.

Past Work Experience: This past summer, I had my first work experience, although it was probably more of a “first life experience.” I had an amazing opportunity to live and work in Helsinki, Finland! This was my first time living by myself in a foreign country where I had to do everything for myself. I worked for the Department of State where I was an intern at the U.S. Embassy in Helsinki. Although the internship was unpaid, the experience and connections I gained were invaluable.
