Josie Brucker: Red & Black Ad Manager

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Meet Josie! Josie is a senior at the University of Georgia majoring in Advertising and Psychology. When this Marietta, GA native isn’t studying over lattes at Starbucks, you can find her in her office at the Red and Black, where she serves at the student ad manager for the publication!

Josie started at the Red and Black her sophomore year as a student account executive in order to get more experience in the advertising world. She worked under the student ad manager at the time to learn how to sell ad space, proper customer service techniques, and how to conduct herself professionally over phone calls and emails. She found immediate success in the position, selling hundreds of dollars of advertising space for hundreds of companies in the Athens area.

After serving a year and a half in the position, she expressed interest in taking over the student ad manager position when her mentor graduated. The paper was so impressed by her success as an account executive, that they appointed her to the position. After a semester of training, she was ready to take over!

Now, Josie is managing the publication process from start to finish! She helps to create ideas for new publications, and works on them all the way to the final editing and proofing of the paper. She does all of this while recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new students to work in the advertising department.

Not only does she work at least 20 hours a week in her position, Josie also balances a full course load for two different major programs at the University, participates actively in her sorority, Phi Mu, and still finds time to spend with her friends and her adorable new puppy! Her dedication to perfection in her work both inside and outside of the classroom is an inspiration to collegiettes, and what makes her our Campus Celeb for this week!
