Meet this week’s campus celebrity, Ivy Hu! Ivy is a first year student here at UGA intending to major in marketing. When you first meet her, you will be immediately refreshed by how friendly and understanding she is. She never fails to ask you how your day went and always listens wholeheartedly. Her playful sense of humor and delightful smile will be sure to cheer up your day no matter what mood you are in.
Though not her first choice, Ivy chose UGA mainly because of the in-state tuition and impressive business school.
“And I can visit back to my home very often,” she says. “I miss brother, we are really close.”
Despite this, she is very much enjoying her time in college so far.
“My favorite thing is that I have more freedom. I can manage my own time, and I can make my own decision.”
Moving to Georgia from China a few years ago, Ivy knows all about how to adjust to new situations. Since moving in, Ivy has gotten involved with an Asian sorority here on campus to be more active in school and to meet more people.
“I haven’t figured out what other clubs to join,” she says. But she hopes to get involved in some way with the business school.
As it was one of the main reasons she chose UGA, her major and her career goals are very important to her.
“I decided to pursue a business career because I’m kind of influenced by my parents,” she explains. “They are running a company. I guess I’ll do some international business.”
Already speaking two languages, English and Chinese, Ivy is currently taking language classes to better prepare herself for her future career. She plans on applying to the Terry College of Business some time during her sophomore year and is working hard to get in. Knowing how competitive it can be, Ivy knows it won’t be easy but definitely worth it in the end. Though still trying to find her place here on campus, you can be sure that Ivy Hu will be a success!
