Girlfriends’ Guide to Cuffing Season: 10 Ways to Know if Bae Is Lying as told by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

There’s probably been a time when you thought someone was lying but you weren’t sure how to approach it. Do you confront it the second you get curious? Do you try to gather evidence? Are you the stalker type that will follow the person to make sure they are telling the truth? What if I told you that all these doubts that you have are valid. To get a fuller perspective I gathered information from my girlfriends and they gave me their insight on how you can unravel the truth if someone as close to you as bae is lying to you. Here are ten ways you can find out if bae is lying or being unfaithful. These apply to long term relationships as well as the beginning stages of dating.

1. Hiding their phone

They either never let you borrow their phone, or they refuse to give you their passcode.

2. Avoiding direct questions

If you ask a direct question and they act confused. These questions could be asking where they are or what they’re doing, and bae has a short answer that doesn’t really answer the questions, answers like “I was neither here nor there,” or “I’m just chillin.”

3. Hidden on social media

They don’t want you associated with their social media, so there are no traces of you on their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

4. Defensive

They get defensive when you ask them something, saying “it’s none of your business, don’t worry about it” or telling you that you’re acting crazy.

5. Trust your intuition

Your intuition can never steer you wrong. If you feel that something is not right, and things are not adding up, odds are that’s the case.

6. Booty Call

They only hit you up at certain hours of the day, typically at night, which in other words is known as a booty call. They usually don’t want to hang out during the day.

7. Never meeting friends

You haven’t been introduced to his/her’s friends and whenever you bring up meeting them they give an excuse.

8. You’re always wrong

Bae finds a way to make any argument your fault and make you think that you are blowing things out of proportion when really, they know you are getting close to the truth, so they have to find a way to make you question yourself.

9. Hidden personal life

Bae never wants to get personal and he/she only lets you see what they want you to see. You don’t know anything about their personal life, like their family or their personal feelings on certain things.

10. The Family Excuse

When you two run into someone when you’re together, bae claims that they are a sister, cousin or some other relative. So you’re telling me all these friends we run into are family members?

So, If bae qualifies for any of the following, you have a right to be doubtful because at the end of the day being ignorant to it and ignoring these feelings of insecurity can only hurt you in the future. Your feelings should not be someone else’s game, so it’s better to address it early so that you are not wasting your time with someone that lies. And also know that you don’t have to be alone in this, just contact that ride-or-die Nancy Drew friend that will help you unravel the truth by any means necessary, or you can talk to someone that you trust that you know will help you make the right decision for you.
