Five Eco-Friendly Makeup and Beauty Brands

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

There are so many ways to be eco-friendly and environmentally conscious. Recycling, conserving water and reducing waste are just some of the few ways to go green and help the planet. Going green can also extend to your makeup and beauty routine. Here are five eco-friendly and cruelty-free makeup and beauty brands.

1. Burt’s Bees

This popular makeup brand uses natural ingredients such as beeswax and honey, hence the name Burt’s Bees. This brand is most famous for its lip balms, but they also carry lipsticks, lotions and skin care products.

2. EcoTools

The name says it all. EcoTools specializes in makeup brushes made from bamboo and organic ingredients.

3. Tarte

Tarte is a bit more of a high-end makeup brand compared to the brands mentioned before. However, you are guaranteed to get your money’s worth. Tarte prides themselves in being a cruelty-free makeup company. They use vegan ingredients and their products are free of parabens, sodium sulfate and gluten.

4. Korres

Korres is a Greek-based beauty brand. They avoid using silicone, parabens and other harmful ingredients in their products. Instead, Korres uses medicinal herbs and flowers found in Greece, while simultaneously promoting the protection of Greek wildlife. Korres sells skincare products such as facial oils, serums and cleansers.

5. Aveda

Aveda’s mission is to not only provide beauty products and services but to also give back to the environment. They bring awareness to many environmental and world issues, such as providing clean water to developing countries, protecting elephants and other wildlife. Aveda specializes in makeup, skincare and hair products. They have salon locations all over the country. Many of their products are organic and plant based.

This Earth Day, make sure you are mindful of the products that you are using on your skin. Not only is it important that beauty products are safe for you to use, but they should also be safe for the planet as well. Happy #EarthWeek collegiates.
