An Athens’ Girl’s Guide To Brunch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

There are few things that unequivocally all girls like: hanging out with your girlfriends and breakfast food. It’s no mystery why brunch is almost a weekly topic for college girls and their friends. French toast? Gossip? Not having to get out of bed before 10 a.m.? What’s not to love! When moving to a new city for college, it is hard to find the perfect Sunday brunch spots, so that’s why HerCampus UGA has done it for you. Here are some great brunch spots in Athens, Georgia that you should eat at at least once during your time at UGA.

Mama’s Boy

197 Oak Street & 8851 Macon Hwy, Suite 403

Open everyday: 7am-2:30pm

A true Classic City classic. Mama’s Boy advertises itself as “southern fun dining,” and it is. With biscuits to die for and the famous cake for breakfast, it’s obvious why UGA students flock there on the weekends. Mama’s Boy is good enough that it’s worth the perpetual hour long wait.

Big City Bread

393 North Finley Street

Breakfast: Mon-Fri: 7am-10:30am & Saturday: 7am-noon & Sunday Brunch: 7am-3pm

If you want to get a little ways off campus and get in with the Athens locals, Big City Bread is the place to do it. Big City Bread has a great selection for it’s brunch menu that includes great coffee, baked goods and quiche. Big City Bread also has a great lunch and dinner menu if you come later in the day.

The Grit

South Bar + Kitchen

247 E Washington Street

If you’re into a little fancier place for brunch, South Bar + Kitchen is the place for you. On top of their great brunch, they are nestled downtown so they are an easy walk from campus. They are also in a pretty building that has a surprising amount of ambiance for 11 a.m. on a Sunday.

The Place

229 Broad Street

Sunday Brunch starts at 10am

Another easy access brunch spot for the gal living on campus. The Place is right across the Arch and North Campus so swing by there for brunch before you start your all-day study session at Starbucks next door.

Trappeze Pub
