Aly & AJ Return to Music

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Any good list of mid-2000’s pop music would be incomplete without mentioning Aly & AJ, the sister duo with hits like “Like Whoa” and “Potential Breakup Song.” The two singers took Disney by storm, with Aly starring on Phil of the Future and both sisters starring in the Disney Channel Original Movie Cow Belles. However, new music failed to appear after the duo briefly changed their name to “78violet” in 2009. While artists like Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and Nick Jonas have released new music and made comebacks since the 2000’s, many fans believed they had seen the end of Aly & AJ’s musical career.

Currently, Aly Michalka stars on The CW’s iZombie, and AJ Michalka is a recurring star on ABC’s The Goldbergs. After years of fans waiting with bated breath for something that seemed unlikely, the sisters released a new single called “Take Me.” The song manages to sound retro and fresh at the same time, making it easy to put on repeat. It’s the perfect song to blast in the car with the windows rolled down, as we say goodbye to summer and enter fall. The infectious tune is sure to get Aly & AJ back on pop music fan’s radar. The duo plans to release an EP later this year, with a full album to be released in 2018. To promote the single, the girls even posted a new video of them singing “Potential Breakup Song!” Talk about nostalgia.

Check out the video for “Take Me” below and decide if it’s the perfect fit for your next playlist.
