5 Ways to Celebrate the Start of Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

As the anticipation for cooler temperatures, cute fall clothing, and an endless supply of the PSL builds, it’s about time to get excited for fall. The official first day of the new season, September 22nd (the date of the autumnal equinox), did just pass after all. In Athens, however, I will say it doesn’t quite feel like fall has actually started yet. As we here at UGA wait patiently (or not so patiently) for temperatures to cool down in the next couple of weeks, here are a few ways to celebrate the beginning of one of the most gorgeous seasons of the year.

1. Have breakfast at O House and nab a pumpkin spice latte, the special of the month, at the coffee bar if you are unable to make the trip to Starbucks, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, or one of the many other retailers that have already started selling them.

2. Go shopping for fall clothing—it’s never too early (or too late) to start looking for those oh-so-comfy soft sweaters, snug scarves, and fuzzy socks. The start of a new season is always a good excuse to buy new things, so why not go peruse the many cute boutiques downtown?

3. It’s ok to get excited about Halloween in late September, right? Go ahead and already start thinking about what you want to wear for the big night (or the parties preceding October 31st)! You never know when you’ll find something that you can incorporate into a costume you have in mind, especially if you have a “vision.” I think it’s always a good thing to be prepared, and look hot as hell in the process.

4. Seek out and research places where you can go experience the beauty that is fall. UGA in itself will become alive with color in the coming months, but it never hurts to find out about more locations you can go adventuring in order to feel some serious #naturevibes as leaf-changing time comes around.

5. Find somewhere to have a cutesy pumpkin-picking day trip with your friends or your love interest (official or otherwise), where you can enjoy the nice weather, but still celebrate fall as it gets closer to pumpkin-carving time. Extra points for places with hay rides, corn mazes, or fresh fruit for purchase nearby along the road.

With all the fun things that fall has to offer, I wish you only the best in enjoying the festivities and activities that the come along with the season. Whether you do all of these things, some of them, or none of them, just remember to appreciate this time that comes around just once a year!
