5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Hate Valentine’s Day (Even If You’re Single)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Whether we like it or not, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner (this weekend, to be more specific.) We know some of you girls who have officially renamed the holiday Single Awareness Day are all set to put your anti-Valentine’s Day plans into full effect but we think there are a few reasons why you should lay off the V-Day (at least just for this year.)

1. It’s on a Saturday

It’s the weekend! Not only do you not have class, but you don’t even have class the next day. Despite the date, you should never hate a day that’s included in the weekend. If you reallyhate Valentine’s day, just tell yourself it’s Saturday and think about how much fun you could be having Downtown regardless of the day.

2. The sales

All of the Valentine’s candy will be on sale the day after Valentine’s day. Imagine you and your friends going through Kroger and stocking up on all of the glorious candy that they have left over (for at least 50% off).  Cheap candy- now that’s guilt-free splurging.

3. It’s not only for couples

Valentine’s Day is all about love. You love plenty of people even if you don’t have a significant other. Tell your friends you love them and they will say it back (if not, get new friends).

4. It’s THE day to take a chance

If there’s any day to come clean about your feelings, it’s today. Or, better yet, if there’s any day that your crush will come forward with his feelings, it will totally be today. A lot of couples have anniversaries on Valentine’s Day. You and your future bae could be next. Hopefully cupid will shoot your crush with an arrow.

5. This happens

Because who doesn’t love Pillsbury sugar cookies? Bake them, dunk them in milk, or just chow down on the dough and your life will be made. Enjoy!

Valentine’s Day can be a lot to handle when it just seems like we can’t escape the PDA or the girls who come to class with giant teddy bears. But remember, this day is about spreading the love regardless of how you feel about the holiday itself. Happy Valentine’s Day, collegiettes!
