5 Reasons Why You Should Be Watching ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a cop comedy on NBC that focuses on the lives of the detectives of the 99th precinct. If you’re not watching the show, you’re being deprived of humanity’s greatest accomplishment. Here are five reasons why you should be watching this show.

1. It’s super diverse.

The characters come from all types of backgrounds without conforming to the stereotypes associated with their origins. Plus they have three-dimensional LGBTQ+ and female characters that aren’t characterized solely by those distinctions.

2. It tackles important issues.

Although it is a comedy show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is not afraid to discuss things like coming out or dealing with racism without trivializing the seriousness of those topics.

3. The relationships are amazing.

The characters’ interactions with each other are so heartfelt and real, and they have each others’ backs through everything. The show also stresses the importance of platonic friendships, which subverts the assumption that men and women can’t just be friends.

4. It’s freaking hilarious!

In addition to a phenomenal cast, the show is packed with the kind of comedy that no one can resist laughing at without depending on crude or insensitive jokes.

5. It just keeps on getting better.

Unlike most shows, it avoids falling into the dreaded three-season standstill. Each season brings something new without resorting to repetitive tropes. The show is currently on its sixth season and does not seem to be slowing down.

What are you waiting for? Go watch the show!
