5 Reasons Why It’s Fun to Stay Home for Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Many students seem to go on exotic vacations and trips for Spring Break. In television and movies, iconic scenes are often of Spring Break vacations. This break has been shown in everything from The O.C. to Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Just look here at all the shows it’s depicted in. Spring Break ultimately creates great memories and laughs for everyone, but what about the benefits of staying home instead of traveling? Here’s why I am staying home for Spring Break.

1. Think of all the TV you can catch up on.

Netflix and Hulu are just there waiting for you to catch up on your binge-watching. When you’re supposed to be doing your homework you end up watching Netflix instead, but you now have an entire week off to do exactly that. You don’t have any responsibilities; you can just catch up on some quality TV. Get some relaxation.

2. You can spend time with family and friends.

If you live far from home (or even if you live close by), it can be nice to go home and spend time with your family. You can grab some family dinners, get some free laundry done and get mothered like no one else. But you know you wouldn’t want to give that up for the world. While you’re at it, you could also visit some friends from high school doing the same thing you’re doing.

3. You can shop and have fun excursions locally.

Who says you have to travel to have exotic shopping and vacations? You can go shop and have fun in your hometown. You could also even go on day trips to places near your home, so you’re not completely “home” all of break. Check out if your city has any decent fairs or concerts in town. Run some errands with your parents!

4. Consider going to see a movie.

When you’re on campus, you may not get time to go see a movie. So, it could be fun to catch a blockbuster film at the old multiplex on one of your days off. Movies coming out just in time for Spring Break include Captain Marvel, Triple Frontier, Five Feet Apart, Mission of Honor, Us and The Kid.

5. You can catch up on sleep.

Face it. You’re sleeping in a lumpy dorm/apartment bed and have been pulling quite a few all-nighters to study for midterms. Spring Break is the time to catch up on sleep, and home is the perfect place to do it. Sleeping is probably the best one on this list.

I hope these benefits made you consider staying at home for Spring Break. Whether you don’t have any plans or you’re broke, there is nothing quite like a staycation.
