How I Met Your Mother started on Sept. 23, and we’re all a flutter. Not really, we’re just championing the cause of our favorite why-aren’t-you-real Ted Mosby. He is finally on the brink of finding the woman of his dreams (even though we know we are the girls of his dreams).

Why do we fan-girl over Ted? Marshall is hilarious and sweet. Barney is… well, he’s Barney. But Ted? He holds a special place in the center of our hearts where we keep our romantic feelings, our weird habits, and our dreams of a man who worships the ground we walk on. Here are a few more reasons why we all need HIMYM’s Ted Mosby:

We want a man who can pull off red cowboy boots…

and who will fully invest in hating something as much as we do. We ladies bond over hatred. If you hate the ‘Noles, he will too!

A man who loves animals is a given – even if he mispronounces their names sometimes.

We want someone who will give us compliments that make us smile in spite of ourselves.

But most importantly, we want someone who knows when to give up, but will try one last time just in case…

… someone who can invest themselves completely in what we’re doing…

… and who will build lives with us, not in spite of us.

Basically, we all need Ted Mosby.
