Wednesday Wisdom: Find Something Great

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

I’ve always been one to live inside my comfort zone, rarely straying far from it. I understand there are two types of people: those who live inside their comfort zone and those who live out of it. And trust me, I get it — you can’t rewire your genes to just be spontaneous. But what I’ve learned lately is that sometimes it’s necessary to take risks. I’m not saying if you hate heights, you should go skydiving, but my point is that it’s possible to be just as brave through other actions.

It takes courage to tell others how you honestly feel and sometimes make decisions that are right for you even if others disagree. It’s brave to take a job that’s really far from home, even if it’s exactly what you’ve wanted ever since you were young. It takes courage to pack up and move wherever your heart desires. It’s brave to pursue your dreams, even when those surrounding you are skeptical of them.

Once when I was younger, I fell off my bike and was scraped and bruised. After that, my bike sat on the porch for a couple of weeks. I was fearful that I might fall again. Now that I’m older, I see so many people in the adult world afraid of falling off their metaphorical bikes — afraid that something that makes them happy might fall apart.

So this is me telling you — you can’t hold yourself back from what you love for fear of the unknown. If you like him, go out with him. And if he breaks your heart, you’ll find strength you didn’t know you had, and you’ll learn to love yourself more than he ever did. If you want the job, find the courage to make it happen. What if you get rejected? Pick yourself up, and find a new way to attain it. Take the chance to contact that editor because she may reply. And if you want to travel, go! There is a way for you to get where you’re going, even if it takes a little time. All it takes is a little courage… a small moment of bravery.

Sure, maybe things won’t go as planned. But sometimes through uncertainty comes serendipity. You’d be surprised. If you find yourself in a rut, do something to change it. I truly believe that sometimes we go through troubles in life in order to gather the courage to find something great. Whatever it may be, go out and find it. This is your sign.
