Two of the biggest trends for spring are floral prints and pastels, which makes sense because they’re eachother’s perfect complement! A loud floral print needs to be offset with the subtlety of a pastel.

However, pastels can stand-alone. Pairing pastels with other pastels creates a soft and dreamlike look. But be careful — wearing pastels on pastels is tricky. It’s a fine line from demur to Easter egg. To avoid looking like a favorite holiday treat, try pairing metals with pastels, like chain necklace or a dark and aged big ring. The metals add dimension to the pastels, which keeps them from looking chalky.

How to incorporate pastels into your wardrobe:
1. Don’t jump in headfirst! Try an accessory piece first. A pastel scarf, nail polish, watch or belt adds the perfect accent of spring to your outfit.
2. For the braver fashionistas, do a color block: Color block a chuck of your outfit with a pastel. Try a pastel pant available at Macys.

How to incorporate florals into your wardrobe:
1. Think about your body. If you’re petite, go with a smaller pattern; if you’re tall, try a bolder, large-scale design.
2. Pick a color combo that can easily blend into your current wardrobe.
