UFashion: Easy, Closet-Inspired Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Besides the cooling temperatures, Halloween has got to be one of the best parts of October! It’s a day when you can dress up as silly or creatively as you want without being judged, and you can ultimately become anything or anyone you want for a few hours. What’s not to love?

The only problem is: with so many options, which one should you choose? What if you can’t afford to go out and buy a completely new costume or make one of your own? These questions can easily be answered behind the door of your own closet!

Here are a few pieces you can easily use as a costume this year without having to wonder if you’re ever going to wear the piece again (because, well, you probably already own them):

LBD
The versatility of a little black dress makes it perfect for the base of your costume. Feeling a little wicked this year? Grab a broom, witches hat, and maybe some striped leggings to channel your inner Elphaba. Don’t care to go to this year’s party as a witch again? Switch that out for some long black gloves, tiara, and sunglasses to become the lovely Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. You can’t go wrong with either of these looks.

Old Formal or Prom Dress
I’ll admit, I’m one of those girl who still has her dress from senior prom tucked away somewhere in her closet back home. So, if you’re in a similar situation or have an old formal dress you thought you’d never wear again, why not take advantage of the holiday to whip it out? This year, go as a Disney princess if your dress is similar to one of theirs or become one of the toddlers from Toddlers & Tiaras. If you’re looking for something a little scarier and willing to permanently let go of your dress, pour fake blood all over it to recreate the prom scene from Carrie.

Red and White Striped Shirt
You have a few choices when it comes to this simple top. You can have fun and dress it up as a clown outfit with the right makeup or add a few more accessories like an eye patch and hook for a pirate costume. Let’s also not forget the hard-to-find Waldo. Just grab a matching beanie and some black glasses, and you’ll be set to go!

Easy Bonus Costume
Are you often looking to style bloggers for inspiration on your next outfit? Why not go as a fashion blogger yourself this year? Throw on a few pieces you know are popular, and don’t worry about matching or looking overdressed, it’s supposed to be a little over-the-top and funny. Don’t forget your trusty camera! Bonus points if you can get a friend to follow you around and take pictures of your blog-worthy outfit! Happy costume-finding!
