Student Style Spotlight: Kaylin Bailey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

For the first installment of the Student Style Spotlight, I talked to Kaylin Bailey, a sophomore telecom and political science student. The 20-year-old Miami native’s laid-back, breezy style is the perfect inspo for your summer looks. Check out what she had to say about her style inspirations, go-to outfit, and what it’s like being a brand ambassador for Yosi Samra.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Ooh okay, that’s a hard one. I really like chic fashions and very laid-back but also fashion forward. I like a lot of athleisure. Anything that’s  comfortable and fun and still has a pop of color.

Q: What made you get into fashion? Was there a defining moment or was it something you’ve always loved?

A: So it definitely was not something that I was always into. When I was little there were days where I was just the biggest tomboy. I think it was around sophomore year of high school that I realized that my mood would just be better if I felt like what I was wearing was comfortable and I liked it. So I think it’s something that definitely has a lot to do with my personality and how my day goes, if I feel pretty and confident in what I’m wearing.

Q: What are some trends you’re excited about right now?

A: So I really like mules lately. I never thought that I would like mules; when they first came out I was kind of iffy about them, but they’ve definitely grown on me. The same with distressed-hem jeans. That’s something that, a few months ago or like, a year ago, I never would have seen myself wearing. Also, I’ve seen a lot of feathers lately. I still don’t have anything with feathers, but I’ve seen it on a lot of blogs, so maybe that’s the next big thing.

Q: What’s your go-to outfit?

A: My go-to outfit is definitely my boyfriend jeans with my high-top Vans and a crop top, with just a cute little bag.

Q: Who are your style inspirations?

A: So I’m into like, a lot of Australian bloggers. There’s this Australian brand, @saboskirt, and I follow all of their ambassadors and its owners like @thessy.k and @yiota. I just love their style; it’s just very laid-back, California-ish. I also follow all the big bloggers, like Aimee Song, but I feel like these [@thessy.k and @yiota] are more low-key and easier to match with my personal style.

Q: I see you’re a brand ambassador for Yosi Samra; how did that start?

A: So Ari, my friend got into it first — she just saw a flyer and applied. Then I did it and I absolutely love it. They send shoes and we just post pictures about them and get a [discount] code. I think it’s really fun because it’s a really cute and almost a “mom-style” kind of brand but I like to mix it up with my outfits. I have these really cool rustic, orange shoes that just add a pop of color to whatever outfit I’m wearing.
